Lymphatic Drainage Massage

A gentle, rhythmic technique that facilitates lymph movement, booked at 60, 90 or 120 minutes in Walnut Creek.

Chapter 01

A light, rhythmic kind of massage

Tranquility Spa describes its Lymphatic Drainage Massage in one line: a gentle technique that facilitates lymph movement. That line tells you most of what the hour feels like. The work is light, slow and rhythmic, closer to a long unhurried sweep of the hands than to the pressing and kneading people expect from a massage.

It sits on the same menu as the Deep Tissue and Hot Stone treatments at 1815 Ygnacio Valley Rd in Walnut Creek, and it is a different kind of appointment from both. Nobody is working through a knot here. If you want a firmer treatment, book Deep Tissue. If you want a patient, soft-handed hour where the therapist keeps a steady tempo and you do not have to say a word, this is the one to ask about.

You stay modestly draped for the whole session, and you can ask for a different temperature, different music or a change in touch at any point. The room is yours for the hour.

What clients have said about it

Two of the spa's Google reviewers single this treatment out. Jung Fitzpatrick, who books a massage once a month and has tried several, wrote: "So far I've enjoyed the signature and lymphatic drainage massage the most." That is a regular, comparing it against the rest of the menu and putting it near the top.

Emma Michael came in with two friends after a long hike, and the group booked two deep tissue sessions and one lymphatic. Her note on the lymphatic was short and specific: "Alicia was firm but steady for the lymphatic." Steady is the useful word. This treatment asks for an even pace and a consistent hand, and a therapist who holds that pace from the first minute to the last is doing the job properly.

Both reviewers also describe how they booked. Emma's group called first and walked in, and Jung has booked online and over the phone. Either way works at Tranquility Spa, and the front desk at (925) 722-5888 can tell you what is open today.

Chapter 03

Lengths, prices and the fine print

Lymphatic Drainage Massage is offered at three lengths: 60 minutes for $100, 90 minutes for $150 and 120 minutes for $200. A light-touch treatment tends to reward time, so the longer sessions give the therapist room to work slowly across the whole body without rushing any one area. If it is your first time, the 60 minute booking is a sensible place to start. Arrive 15 minutes early so there is time for the new-client form and a quick word about what you would like.

A few plain points about how the spa works. The therapists do not diagnose conditions or prescribe treatment, and this massage is offered as a relaxing service, not as medical care. If you are in chemotherapy or radiation, the spa asks you to bring a doctor's note before your session. If you have questions about whether this treatment suits you, talk to your own doctor first, then call the front desk and ask anything else before you book.

Cancelling with less than 24 hours' notice is charged at half the price of the service, and a credit card holds every booking. Gift Cards are sold at the spa if you would like to give someone this hour instead of booking it for yourself.
